In July and August 2024, our team member, Radka Klvaňová, presented our project's findings at two significant international conferences.
From July 2 to 5, Radka participated in the 21st IMISCOE Annual Conference titled "Migration as a Social Construction: A Reflexive Turn." She contributed to the online panel "Categorisation and Boundary-Making in Migration Studies," where she shared insights from our ongoing research. The conference, organized by the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-ISCTE) at the University Institute of Lisbon, focused on the social processes that transform individuals into migrants and the categories that emerge from these processes.
Subsequently, from August 27 to 30, Radka attended the 16th European Sociological Association (ESA) Conference in Porto, Portugal. Themed "Tension, Trust, and Transformation," this conference addressed contemporary global challenges and the role of sociology in understanding and addressing them. Radka's presentation further elaborated on our research, particularly aspects of our forthcoming paper, tentatively titled "We're Equal and Some Are More Equal: How Immigrants Engage with Local Hierarchies of Otherness."
These presentations provided valuable platforms for discussing our research with international scholars and receiving constructive feedback, which will be instrumental in preparing our paper for publication.
